Art Department is on display in Alpena

Continuing a long tradition of participation in the art community, the KCC art department has two shows on display in the 2007 Northeast Artists' Juried Exhibition at the Jesse Besser Museum in Alpena through October 28th.

Jean Schneider, an adult interest student from Houghton Lake and an active member of Roscom-mon's Pen and Palette Group, earned a solo exhibi-tion at the museum for winning last year's Northeast Michigan Artists' Juried Exhibition.

Mineral-stained sandstone cliffs rising dramatically from Lake Superior was the scene for a band of students who opted to go along with fulltime Kirtland life science instructor, Denise Kemp, on her 'optional fieldtrip.'

The group included Denise herself, 5 biology students, 7 nature study students, and 6 friends and family of the students.

Non-traditional student takes on traditional leadership role

Martina Navratilova retired from tennis at 49. Karch Kiraly is still active in volleyball at 46.

And Paul Owen, at almost 40 years young, is an active member of the KCC cross country team.

"Even though he comes in at 39 years old, he has been instrumental in putting the men's (cross country team) program over the top in team standings this year," remarked Steve Seager, head coach.
