A reception was held in the Kirtland Library to thank Mrs. William Jones for donating funds to Kirtland Community College Library in memory of her late husband William Jones.
William Jones was a dedicated math instructor here at Kirtland, Jones was highly dedicated to helping students as he did tutoring as well. In 2005 Jones life was taken by cancer. With the money that was donated to the library, seven TI-83 Plus calculators and six smaller calculators were purchased for students. The TI-83 Plus calculators cost around $130.00 for a student to purchase.
"These calculators have functions I've never heard of. They are used in advanced math and physics." said Louise Bucco, Librarian, "Students can check them out as if it were a book for one month and one renewal after that."
Cookies and coffee were served at the reception to thank Mrs. Jones and to show what was purchased with the donation. Mr. Jones was always very concerned with students, in some cases he would purchase calculators for students who couldn't afford one. Mrs. Jones was confident he would support this cause.
