Pledging to lead by example, the college has initiated a project to find ways to protect and conserve our natural resources here on campus.

"It's a first step, but an important step for us to take. We envision expanding our scope, but first we have to do all we can here at the college," said Mark Allen, the chairperson of the committee working on the project.

Tom Dale, part-time faculty member and local environmental activist will host a series of viewings of the Al Gore film, "An Inconvenient Truth," to be held in the Student Center.

There will be opportunities to discuss the topics raised in the controversial documentary.

"We want to, as much as we can, involve the students in this project," said Steve Oppy, a committee member. The first event will be on November 1st at 11 am, 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm.

Other efforts include examining the recycling process on campus and perhaps expanding those efforts. The committee has expressed an interest in partnering with local agencies and organizations to foster environmental awareness in our communities, "but first we want to make sure we are doing all we can here on campus," said Tim Scherer, another committee member.

If you are interested in finding out more about the project call Allen at ext.342, Oppy at ext. 440, or Scherer at ext. 299.
