Continuing a long tradition of participation in the art community, the KCC art department has two shows on display in the 2007 Northeast Artists' Juried Exhibition at the Jesse Besser Museum in Alpena through October 28th.

Jean Schneider, an adult interest student from Houghton Lake and an active member of Roscom-mon's Pen and Palette Group, earned a solo exhibi-tion at the museum for winning last year's Northeast Michigan Artists' Juried Exhibition.

Her exhibition, entitled "These are a Few of My Favorite Things" contains works on vegetables, flowers, her grandchildren and images from her childhood home.

Since 2002, she has been a watercolor and drawing student in Kirtland's Art Department, and has shown her work in various exhibitions and won several awards, including the Northeast Michigan Artist's Juried Exhibition, Gaylord Council for the Arts Annual Exhibition (2nd place), and the Bosque Conservatory's Realism Exhibition in Clifton, Texas.

In addition to Schneider's exhibit, KCC instructors Scott Rice and Justin LaDoux, along with current and past students, are displaying their work in the major gallery of the Besser Museum.

The accepted artists and their works are: Jo Carol Burgard's watercolor of "Carcassone, France," Carole Chilton's pastels of "Stairs, St. George, Utah" and "Inside out, steps and trunks," Dana Doll's oil painting of "Shadow Shat-tered #3," Bonnie Ewald's oil painting of "Brenda with Dreads," Peggy Hughes's watercolor of "Green Chairs by the Cabin," Justin LaDoux's oil painting of " Face," Bill Leichtman's digital photography of " From Heaven Above" and "Natural Beauty," Scott Rice's watercolor paintings of "Continue to Play, Continue to Learn #3" and "Wellington Farm: The Carpenter's Shop," Patricia Riegle's charcoal drawing of "Adopted Child Pondering Her Ancestry," Robert Snyder's wood carv-ings of "Buddy" and "Crooked Crow," and Berneice Southworth's watercolor of "Remembrances of 1929."

"This art show is a great representation of the kind talent we have here at Kirtland," commented Joe Donna, director of Kirtland's Art Department.

"I and the rest of the art faculty would like to congratulate all our artists and encourage anyone who wants to experience some outstanding artwork to visit this exhibit."
